BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team had a player earn individual accolades from the Southern Conference office this afternoon as
Dylan Faulkner was named the SoCon Player of the Week.
The Bulldogs went 1-1 on the week with games at Virginia Commonwealth and against Cornell. The Samford center had a career week, setting career-highs in scoring and rebounding in the two games. The junior center scored 22 points against the Rams as he went 8-of-13 from the field and pulled down nine rebounds. After setting a new scoring high and tying his rebound best, the Georgia native bested those numbers in the Dog's win over Cornell on Sunday night. Faulkner was 9-of-10 from the field as he finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds.Â
Faulkner is second on the team in scoring with 15.5 points per game and leads the side with 6.6 rebounds per game. He has been on a tear scoring-wise, reaching 19 points the past three games.
After falling 83-57 to the Rams on the road, the Bulldogs bounced back with their best win of the season, as they defeated Cornell 93-90 at the Pete Hanna Center. They overcame a 15-point deficit with 14 minutes left in the game to secure the three-point win to move their record to 5-6. As Faulkner dominated the game in the paint, he got help from
Jadin Booth, who scored a game-high 30 points.
The Dogs now have a nice break before they return to action for two home games against non-division I opponents. They host Bryan on Dec. 15, followed by Reinhardt on Dec. 19 in the Pete Hanna Center.Â
