BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team earned a 6-1 win over the Belmont Bruins Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improved to 5-2 on the season. Belmont fell to 1-1 with the loss.
 
Samford swept all three doubles matches to pick up the first point of the match. At No. 1 doubles, Emily Surcey and Libby Blair defeated Anastasiya Zholdakova and Aly Getty, 7-6. On the No. 2 doubles court, Margaret Jaraczewski and Sara Erenda defeated Hana Sokolovic and Viktoria Kliimand, 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, Eleni Liakonis and Meredith Taylor earned a 6-3 win over Sarah McElrath and Libbie Hamilton.
 
In singles, Samford earned wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 to close out the 6-1 win. At No. 1 singles, Surcey defeated Zholdakova, 6-1, 2-6, 10-3. On the No. 2 singles court, Jaraczewski earned a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 win over Kliimand.
 
At No. 3 singles, Erenda defeated Sokolovic, 6-1, 6-1. On the No. 4 singles court, Liakonis earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Getty. At No. 6 singles, Blair defeated McElrath, 6-0, 6-1.
 
Next up, Samford will host UAB on Feb.12. The match is set for a 1:30 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
