AIKEN, S.C. – The Samford men's golf team used a strong final round to finish in a tie for fifth at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate, hosted by USC Aiken, on Monday and Tuesday.
The teams only played two rounds due to inclement weather. Samford finished with a three-round score of 588 (307-281) to tie with Mercer for fifth in the 15-team field. Clemson won the event with a final score of 563 (289-274).
Samford had two players finish in the top 20 of the 75-player field.
Matthew Smith tied for 13
th with a two-round score of 146 (78-68).
Garrison Guthrie tied for 18
th at 148 (78-70).
Gavin Isbell tied for 23
rd in the event with a two-round total of 149 (78-71), while
Taylor Kuehn tied for 25
th at 150 (73-77).
Craig Sanders finished in a tie for 33
rd at 151 (79-72).
Next up, Samford will compete in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, Mar. 23-26, in Mobile.
