CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Samford men's tennis team advanced to the Southern Conference Tournament semifinals with a 4-1 win over UNC Greensboro in the quarterfinal round Thursday at The Champions Club.
 
The Bulldogs improved their record to 17-5 with the win and the team advanced to Friday's semifinal round where Samford will take on Mercer. UNCG ends its season with a mark of 9-14.
 
Samford won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. At No. 1 doubles, J.B. Pickard and Darcy Nicholls defeated Tymofiy Khrystyuk and John Gabelic, 6-1. On the No. 2 doubles court, Santiago Arredondo and Sandeep Mohandoss earned a 6-1 win over Luke Thomson and William Elmers. The match at No. 3 doubles was not finished.
 
In singles, Samford picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 with Nicholls defeating Gabelic to give Samford a 2-0 lead. On the No. 1 singles court, UNCG's Khrystyuk defeated Mohandoss, 6-4, 6-3, to cut the lead to 2-1.
 
At No. 4 singles, Pickard defeated Andrew Black, 6-0, 7-6 (7-2), to give Samford a 3-1 lead. Samford closed out the 4-1 win at the No. 3 singles position where Hayden Menon defeated Thomson, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
