BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to 39^th-ranked Furman Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the loss, Samford fell to 9-10 overall and 1-3 in Southern Conference play. Furman improved to 15-3 overall and 4-0 in league play.
 
Samford won on the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles courts to take an early 1-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, Emily Surcey and Sara Erenda defeated the 72^nd-ranked Sara Snyder and Ellie Schulson, 6-3. On the No. 3 doubles court, Eleni Liakonis and Meredith Taylor earned a 6-2 win over Marissa Pennings and Alexa Griffith.
 
In singles, Samford won at the No. 2 position, but Furman won at the other five spots for the 5-2 win. At No. 2 singles, Margaret Jaraczewski defeated Marissa Pennings, 3-6, 6-3, 5-4, retired.
 
Samford will next host Wofford on Sunday, April 6. The match is set for an 11 a.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
