ATLANTA, Ga. – The Samford soccer team earned an impressive 3-0 win at Georgia State Thursday evening at the Georgia State Soccer Complex.
With the win, Samford improved its record to 2-2-1 on the season. Georgia State fell to 3-3 with the loss.
Martha Bishop got the scoring started with her goal off an assist from
Sam De Luca in the 17
th minute for a 1-0 Samford lead.
Sarah Holland then scored in the 22
nd minute off a corner kick and an assist from
Caroline Smith to push the lead to 2-0.
The lone goal in the second half was scored by De Luca. She netted her goal in the 55
th minute off an assist from Bishop to make the final score 3-0.
Bishop led Samford with four shots in the game. De Luca and Holland had two shots each.
Peyton Hull played the full 90 minutes in goal, saving seven shots and posting her third shutout of the season.
For Georgia State, Aaliyah Faddoul led the team with seven shots, with three coming on goal. Ariana Anderson saved four shots and allowed three goals in the loss for the Panthers.
Next up, Samford will return home to play host to Western Kentucky on Sunday, Sept. 7. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start from Shauna Yelton Field.
