SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Samford men's basketball team continued play in the Southern Conference tonight as they were on the road at Wofford. The Bulldogs and the Terriers were in a tight affair throughout the game until the home side overcame Samford's halftime lead with a late run, ending in an 88-78 Wofford win. Samford's record falls to 9-11 overall and 2-5 in league play after the defeat.
Both teams traded baskets through a tightly contested first half marked by 11 ties and 14 lead changes. The Bulldogs found their offensive rhythm early behind the aggressive play ofÂ
Jadin Booth, who scored 17 points before the break and anchored the attack on the perimeter.Â
Dylan Faulkner contributed with efficient looks in the paint, going 7-of-9 for the game and finishing with 18 points.
The Dogs shot the ball well as a team in the opening half, 15-of-30 from the field and 6-of-14 from beyond the arc. However, Wofford countered with 58 percent from the floor but was able to hit just one three-pointer in the first 20 minutes of play. Samford went into the locker room with a 41-38 lead after executing well on both ends in the final minutes of the half.
The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 53-47 after Booth knocked down a jumper. However, Wofford responded with a series of runs and the Dogs were unable to get stops in the second half. The home side shot 71 percent from the floor and lived at the line as Samford was unable to keep Kahmare Holmes out of the paint, as he finished with a game-high 36 points on 10-of-16 shooting and going 14-of-18 at the line.
Booth hit a layup with four minutes remaining to put Samford down one, 76-75, and Faulkner would tie the game at 78 after a basket with three minutes left, but that would be the final points for the Dogs as Wofford closed with a 10-0 run.
Keaton Norris broke double-figures with 12 points while
Isaiah Campbell-Finch and
Kam Martin each got eight points. Martin was the lone scorer off the bench for the Dogs. Samford finished with strong shooting numbers, 49 percent, but the Terriers ended the night shooting 64 percent from the field en route to their victory.
Up next, the Bulldogs return home to Pete Hanna Center on Saturday to host Chattanooga. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be aired on ESPNU against a Mocs side that beat Samford 88-79 when the sides met earlier this season.
