BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Samford women's basketball fell to Wofford 80-56 Thursday night at the Pete Hanna Center in a Southern Conference match up. Despite a competitive first half that saw the Bulldogs briefly take the lead, Wofford used a strong third quarter to pull away. Samford moves to 8-13 overall and 1-3 in SoCon play.

Samford trailed by four after the opening quarter but responded well to win the second period and close the gap to three at halftime. Freshman Kaylee Yarbrough sparked the Bulldogs with a key three-pointer to put Samford ahead late in the second quarter, but Wofford answered almost immediately with a tying shot to even the score before the break.

Momentum swung in the third quarter, as Wofford outscored Samford 25-13 and built a 15-point lead heading into the final period. Rebounding proved to be the pivotal factor, with Wofford holding a 54-27 edge on the glass and converting 20 second-chance points compared to Samford's three. Yarbrough led the Bulldogs with 17 points, connecting on 7-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range. Emily Snoddy added 10 points, four rebounds and three blocks. Senior guard Sierra Godbolt rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points and three assists.

Samford managed to record a total of nine blocks as a team, including three each from Emily Snoddy and Carla Baguda, but was unable to close the gap in the fourth quarter. Wofford's Queen Ikhiuwu delivered a dominant performance with a double-double, recording 20 points, 16 rebounds and six assists.

Samford returns to Pete Hanna Center Saturday to host Furman in a White Out conference match up. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
