Bulldogs Face Catamounts on the Road Sunday Afternoon

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team returns to play on Sunday afternoon as they play Western Carolina in the Southern Conference. The game, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, has been moved to Sunday at noon Central time due to weather as the Bulldogs enter with a 10-12 record while WCU enters with an 8-12 mark.
 

The Bulldogs and Catamounts are meeting for the 36th time in history, with Samford leading the all-time series 21-14 and winning the past 10 meetings. The two sides met earlier this season in Birmingham with the Bulldogs coming out on top 82-77. In the previous meeting, the Dogs fell behind by 18 in the first half before storming back to win by five. Four Bulldogs scored in double figures, led by Jadin Booth, who scored 33 points. Keaton Norris, Will Shaver, and Kam Martin all scored 11 points each against WCU.

Samford is coming off a 78-73 defeat at Furman in their previous game. Booth and Dylan Faulkner scored 23 and 19 points respectively. The Bulldogs struggled from the free-throw line, going 12-of-22. They rank 328th in the country in free-throw percentage at 67 percent. Samford ranks fourth in the country as a team in turnovers per game. They take care of the ball, averaging just 8.5 turnovers per game. Booth is second in the country in made threes on the season and continues to lead the conference in scoring at 20.8 points per game.

Western Carolina enters the game with an 8-12 record on the season and is 4-5 in SoCon play. The Catamounts are coming off a 90-88 road victory at ETSU, their second win over the Bucs this season. Head coach Tim Craft is in his second season at WCU, already meeting his win total from last year. Western Carolina was picked to finish seventh in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll. Marcus Kell was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team. The Catamounts have three players who average double-figures, led by Cord Stansberry who scored 13.9 ppg.
