TUSCALOOSA, Ala.-- The Samford men's tennis team captured its second win of the season in dramatic fashion Sunday, defeating Alabama 4-3 in a non-conference match up on the road. The Bulldogs clinched the victory with a thrilling final-set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles to move to 2-2 on the year.
Samford gained early momentum by securing the doubles point after back-to-back wins on courts 2 and 3. The deciding match came from the tandem of Cooper Errey and Lukas Dvorak, who battled to a 7-6 (5) victory in a tightly contested tiebreaker, setting the tone for the day.
Singles play saw the Bulldog's lineup deliver under pressure. Lukas Dvorak continued his strong outing, fighting through three sets to win at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1, and push Samford back in front. Alabama responded with wins at No. 5 and No. 2 to take a 3-2 advantage, but the Bulldogs refused to fold.
Santiago Arredondo delivered a crucial three-set win on court 4, prevailing 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 to tie the match at 3-3 and keep Samford alive. The outcome came down to Sebastian Harrison at No. 3 singles, who went undefeated on the day by outlasting his opponent 6-3, 7-6 (8), clinching the team victory with a clutch tiebreaker finish.
The Bulldogs' resilience was on display throughout the afternoon, winning three of four three-set matches and coming through in high-pressure moments, including tiebreakers in both doubles and singles. The win marks a significant achievement for Samford, taking down an SEC opponent on the road.
