BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team is back in action starting tomorrow afternoon as they host the Samford Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Game times on Sunday were moved due to weather, as Samford now faces Lindenwood and Belmont on Friday, followed by Lindenwood and North Alabama on Saturday. The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 2-4 record on the season.
Samford is coming off a 14-5 win over Alabama State on Tuesday night in their home opener. The Dogs had 14 hits, led by a three-hit performance from
Shannon Weems. She had two homers and five RBIs to lead the Bulldogs, while
Ella Nelson hit three singles and
Joi Hubbard and
Brandy Phillips had multi-hit games.Â
After falling behind early to the Hornets,
Claire McArthur entered in the circle and shut down the ASU bats. She went 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit and earning her first win of her Samford career.
Katie Campbell is leading the Dogs offensively so far this season, hitting .400 and carrying a 1.471 OPS.Â
Lindenwood enters the weekend with a 3-1 record, with its defeat coming last weekend to Alabama State. Belmont sits at 3-2 on the season, with a win over ranked Georgia, while North Alabama carries a 4-1 mark. The games can be followed with live stats linked on the softball schedule page
