GAME NOTES -- Samford at Georgia (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team is back in action tomorrow as they hit the road to take on Georgia in a ranked midweek clash. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. as Samford enters with a 4-6 record on the season while the No. 16 ranked Georgia side carries a 9-2 mark on the year.
Samford and Georgia are meeting for the 5th time in program history, with Georgia leading the series 5-0. Georgia defeated Samford 11-3 in six innings when the sides last met in Athens in 2023. Samford is coming off a 3-2 opening week. The Bulldogs defeated Alabama State before going 2-2 at the Samford Bulldog Tournament. Samford picked up two wins over Lindenwood but fell to Belmont and North Alabama. Georgia is coming off a 5-1 weekend at the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational hosted by Oklahoma State.Â
Olivia Shaw broke out this week going, 8-for-14 at the plate with four doubles, two homers, and eight RBIs, earning her Southern Conference Player of the Week honors. Makinley Turner leads the Dogs' pitching staff so far this season with a 1.88 ERA. She is coming off a defeat against North Alabama, where she allowed eight runs but just one earned in 3.1 innings of work. The Bulldogs are looking for a second arm in the staff, as no other pitcher has an ERA below 4.40 or has held opposing batters below .310 in their limited sample size. Katie Campbell leads the Bulldogs with an OPS of 1.308, as six of her nine hits have gone for extra bases.
