Samford Baseball Earns 6-4 Win Over Alabama A&M

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team picked up a 6-4 win over Alabama A&M Tuesday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

With the win, Samford improved its record to 6-9 on the season. Alabama A&M dropped its season mark to 5-13 with the loss.

"To start that first inning, (Jeffrey) Ince hit a missile for an out and then Jake hit a missile for a hit and then Cade hit one out to kind of get things rolling with the two spot," Samford head coach Tony David said. "They did a really good job after one of the few errors we've made, they capitalized on it and got one out of the park to take the lead, but I was proud of the way our guys responded after that. This is a game that we need to win, you feel like there's a little pressure to win this one, so when you, all of a sudden, are down there, it said a lot for our guys to come right back and answer."

Samford pitcher Austin Tommasini (1-0) pitched 2.0 innings in relief, giving up no runs on three hits and striking out three batters to earn the win on the mound for Samford. Zak Spurrier picked up his second save of the season, pitching the final inning, allowing just one hit.
