BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team closes out its regular season at home this weekend as they host UNCG for two games on Saturday and one on Sunday. The series features the top two teams in the Southern Conference, with the Bulldogs needing a three-game sweep to capture a regular-season title.
The Bulldogs enter with a 25-27 record overall, and they sit at 13-5 in league play while UNCG is 15-3 in SoCon play and is 37-16 overall. The Dogs had won seven games in a row prior to their defeat in the final game of their series at ETSU last weekend.
Olivia Shaw and
Katie Campbell have been on a tear for Samford, with Shaw hitting .441 in SoCon play and Campbell leading the conference with a school-record 18 home runs.
The Samford pitching staff has claimed SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors for three straight weeks.
Reese Hickey is the reigning winner of the award after a complete game shutout at ETSU.
Makinley Turner has lowered her earned run average to 2.87 as she has shutout her opponents in five of her last six outings.
