BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team enters postseason play on Friday afternoon as they start the Southern Conference Tournament. The Bulldogs clinched the two seed in the tournament and are set to play on Friday at noon Central time against the ETSU/Mercer vs Western Carolina winner.
The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 26-29 record overall and were 14-7 in SoCon play. Samford played an extremely difficult non-conference schedule that had them play 21 teams that were in the top-75 on the RPI. Testing themselves early paid off as they won five of seven conference series.
Six Samford players were named to the postseason All-SoCon team.
Olivia Shaw took home Player of the Year honors, and she was joined on the first team by
Katie Campbell and
Brandy Phillips.
Makinley Turner and
Addison Smith were named to the second team, while
Reese Hickey made the freshman team.
The SoCon Tournament had its schedule moved back by a day as the opening on Wednesday was postponed due to weather. The championship game has been pushed back to Sunday and will be a winner-take-all game instead of the originally scheduled true double elimination bracket.
