GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. BELMONT (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team will play its home opener for the 2026 season when the Bulldogs play host to Belmont Sunday at 6 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.
Samford and Belmont have met 12 previous times, with Samford holding a 10-1-1 series lead. The teams last played on Sept. 11, 2025, with the game ending in a 0-0 draw in Nashville, Tenn. The teams were co-members of the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2001 and 2002. Samford has an all-time record of 17-3-2 against the current members of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bulldogs have played Belmont (10-1-1) and Murray State (7-2-1) from the MVC.
Samford enters Sunday night's contest with a record of 0-0-1. The Bulldogs opened the season with a 0-0 draw at No. 2 Notre Dame Wednesday evening.
In the tie with the Irish Samford goalkeeper and South Bend, Ind., native
Peyton Hull saved eight shots in posting the shutout in her return to her hometown.
Becca Koenig and
Sam De Luca had one shot on goal each for the Bulldogs.
Samford returns 75.5 percent (34-of-45) of its goals, 68.3 percent (28-of-41) of its assists and 73.2 percent (96-of-131) of its total points from last season.
Belmont has a mark of 0-0-1 on the young season. The Bruins posted a 0-0 draw against Tennessee Tech Wednesday night.
The Bruins' goalkeeper Greta Genie had one save in posting the shutout against Tennessee Tech. Belmont was led by Meredith Koltz with two shots on goal. Kaitlyn Elliott, Lillie Tabor and Wagoner Towsen had one shot on goal each for the Bruins.
