OXFORD, Miss. – The Samford soccer team saw its first action of the 2026 season with an exhibition match at Ole Miss, taking a 2-1 win over the Rebels Wednesday evening.
 
Ole Miss netted its goal in the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
 
Samford's Avery Stevens brought things back to even when she scored on a penalty kick to knot the score at 1-1. Florida transfer Brinley Murphy then netted the game-winning goal to give Samford the 2-1 win.
 
This marks the second-straight season Samford has earned an exhibition win over the Rebels, as the Bulldogs took a 1-0 victory at Shauna Yelton Field last season.
 
Samford will play its final exhibition game on Friday at 2 p.m. at Western Kentucky. The Bulldogs will open the regular season at Notre Dame on Aug. 12, with the contest set for a 6 p.m. (CT) start from South Bend, Ind. The team's home opener is set for Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. against Belmont.
