Volleyball Set to Compete in Three Matches in Nashville

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to compete in a tournament hosted by the Belmont University Bruins on Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs will take on Middle Tennessee on Friday at 2 p.m. (CT) and Belmont Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) at the Curb Event Center. Then the Bulldogs will play an away match at Vanderbilt at 1 p.m. (CT) at Memorial Gymnasium.
Samford enters the weekend with a record of 0-2. Last Friday, Samford traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to play Alabama, falling, 3-1 and had its home season opener on Sunday, suffering a 3-1 defeat to UC Riverside.
Samford has been led so far this season by freshman Amyra Burchik with 28 kills, while Ally Cordes followed with 24 kills through the first two matches of the season. Sophomore Brooklyn Drumwright also leads the team in digs with 29 through the first weekend of the season. Brianna Hamiliton recorded 21 digs, while Alison Ohlinger has 21 digs, to go along with her 82 assists.
Samford and Middle Tennessee will be meeting for the eighteenth time ever in their school's history. Middle Tennessee is currently leading the series twelve to five. Samford also leads the series 12-5 against Belmont; its last win was in 2005 on Oct. 10 at the Pete Hanna Center. This upcoming Sunday will be Samford's first meeting in school history against Vanderbilt in volleyball.
