Cross-Country Teams Open Season With Strong Showing At Foothills Invitational

OXFORD, Ala. – The Samford men's and women's cross-country teams opened their seasons at the Foothills Invitational, hosted by Jacksonville State, Friday morning at Choccolocco Park.

The men's team finished third in the 17-team field with 101 points, behind only Jacksonville State and Auburn. The women's squad placed fourth out of 20 teams with 116 points, behind Auburn, Jacksonville State and UAB.

The women ran first, running a 5000-meter race. Samford was led by junior Felicity Hamilton, who finished 11^th in the 100-runner field, with a time of 18:13.5. Junior Bela Doss came in 13^th, running the race in 18:20.9. Senior Marlo Hibler placed 24^th at 18:49.1, while freshman Nora Brahim came in 39^th with a time of 19:45.2. Senior Isabella Edwards finished 49^th with a time of 20:09.4, while freshman Ella Reidinger came in 53^rd at 20:18.4.

The men also ran a 5000-meter race, with senior William Jordan leading the way, placing 12^th out of 100 runners with a time of 15:40.4. Sophomore Loden Kohrman finished 19^th at 15:52.7, while freshman Bailey Kendrick finished 25^th with a time of 16:00.2. Junior Kenneth Bishop placed 29^th at 16:02.5, while freshman Shawn Stephenson came in 32^nd at 16:09.8. Freshman Crew McDaniel placed 34^th at 16:12.0, while freshman Whit Thornton finished 37^th with a time of 16:18.5 and junior Stephen Jones placed 53^rd at 16:44.4

Next up, Samford will compete in the Southern Showcase, Sept. 18, in Huntsville, Ala.
