NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Samford volleyball team closed its weekend in Nashville, Tenn., on Sunday afternoon, falling to Vanderbilt 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-10) inside of Memorial Gymnasium.

Samford falls to 1-4 on the season, while Vanderbilt improves to 5-0.

The Commodores opened the match with a 25-16 win in set one. The Bulldogs fought hard in the second set, but the Commodores ultimately pulled away, 25-19. Vanderbilt secured the 3-0 victory, taking set three 25-10.

Senior outside hitter Ally Cordes led Samford in kills with 11, while freshman defensive specialist Katelyn Stooksbury had a team leading-seven digs. Freshman setter Alison Ohlinger recorded 19 assists and two services aces. Samford finished with a hitting percentage of .073 on 82 attempts.

For Vanderbilt, Maya Witherspoon led the way with 13 kills on a .440 hitting percentage. Hailee Mack tallied 15 digs, while Avery Scroggins recorded 27 assists. The Commodores finished with a .360 hitting percentage on 89 attempts.

Samford returns to action next weekend, hosting the Samford Invitational. The Bulldogs will face off against North Alabama (Sept. 11) and Jacksonville State (Sept. 13).
