Compliance Spotlight
INTRODUCTION
Samford University, as a member of the Southern Conference (SoCon), and the NCAA, is responsible for ensuring that its coaches, student-athletes (SAs), faculty and staff, donors, boosters, fans, and friends abide by SoCon and NCAA regulations. Samford can attribute its athletic success to its SAs, coaches, and administrators who strive to make Samford a model athletics program, both on and off the field of competition. Another key component of Samford’s success is the unfaltering support of our alumni, boosters, and friends of the athletic department. Samford is appreciative of the financial support of our boosters and their efforts to abide by NCAA rules. As we strive for continued excellence, we must always seek the highest standard of ethical conduct. With your assistance and cooperation, we can remain one of the top athletics programs in the SoCon, combining excellence, integrity and Christian leadership in academics, athletics, and fan engagement.
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE INSTITUTION
Each institution shall comply with all applicable NCAA rules and regulations in the conduct of its intercollegiate athletics programs. Samford is charged with monitoring its program to assure compliance and to identify and report to the NCAA instances in which compliance has not been achieved. In any instance, we must cooperate fully with the NCAA and take appropriate corrective actions. Members of Samford staff, SAs, and other individuals and groups representing the Bulldog’s athletics interests shall comply with the applicable NCAA rules. Samford is responsible for the compliance of all representatives of our athletic interest. You may submit questions or report a violation anonymously by emailing compliance@samford.edu.
WHAT CAN I DO AS A BOOSTER? – RELATIONSHIPS WITH PSAs
As a donor, commonly referred to as a booster, to Samford Athletics, you may bring to the attention of a Samford coach an outstanding prospective student-athlete (PSA) from your hometown. You may not, however, become involved with the actual talent evaluation of the PSA. The restriction also applies to recruiting conversations, or written or electronic correspondence with a PSA’s high school, non-scholastic coach, principal, guidance counselor, or family members. You may not visit the PSA’s school to pick up film or transcripts pertaining to the evaluation of the PSA’s athletic or academic abilities. You may continue relationships with a PSA or their families provided the relationship is genuine and existed significantly prior to the PSA’s status as a recruit. This includes family members, church members, neighbors, etc.
