Q&A with Account Executive, Ashlee Torres
What is the last TV show you binged and loved?
Quantico and House of Cards
What is your favorite thing to do in Birmingham?
Check out any and all local food spots. My favorite is Mud Town.
What is your favorite Samford Athletics tradition?
Bulldog Madness. It's a student- only event that we host to help form a relationship between our Greek Life and Athletes. Each Greek Life organization partners with another organization that then competes in various games and events to eventually draft an entire program to support for the next year. It's a super fun event that both athletes and students love, and it's so fun to get to watch the competitiveness and love for our programs from a students' perspective.
What got you into working in college athletics?
I started working in the Samford Athletic Department my sophomore year of college. I fell in love with the atmosphere and the ability to help create an experience for fans that not only elevated the game experience, but brought people together and brought them joy. I decided to switch my major to Sports Marketing and haven't looked back. I became a Marketing Assistant with Samford after I graduated and just recently was hired on by our sponsorship group, Van Wagner.
What is the impact of your role as Account Executive for Van Wagner on Samford student-athletes?
I'm excited to bring our community and athletic department together through partnerships. Each partner has a direct impact on our student athletes in a couple of different ways. First, they help contribute financially to our programs by helping to provide new uniforms, gas for our buses and game meals. Our partners also connect with our student athletes, coaches and department through networking. This helps our athletes in a tremendous way when they decide to transition from their time as an athlete and into the workforce. It's really special to be able to help develop these relationships and build a bigger, better Samford community.
What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
I am most looking forward to fostering relationships with members of our community that want to partner with our athletics programs and help take it to the next level. Our partners are more than just their brand name or title. They are individuals who love Birmingham, community and our athletes.
Final Message from Ashlee:
"Just like our partners, we could not do this without our donors. You play a vital role in the everyday lives of our student-athletes and help cultivate an amazing experience for them while they are here at Samford. Thank you for your continued support, and being part of what makes the Samford community so great!"
