Samford University Athletics

James Ruby joined the Samford Sports Medicine staff in 2022 and currently works as the Assistant Athletic Trainer with Samford football. Ruby also serves as a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for Samford Athletics.

Prior to joining the staff at Samford, he served as the Head Athletic Trainer with the football, men’s lacrosse, and baseball teams from 2021-2022. Ruby also formerly provided coverage for the football, women’s basketball, and baseball teams at Gannon University from 2019-2020. He spent two years at Birmingham Southern College from 2016-2018 as the primary athletic trainer for men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming, and the baseball team.

A Birmingham, Michigan native, Ruby graduated from Adrian College in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, where he was also a four-year member of the men’s soccer team as a goalkeeper. He earned his Master’s degree in Athletic Training from Adrian College in 2016.
