Joey Mullins

Joey Mullins is in his 22nd year working in the Samford Athletics Department and his 11th as Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Information.
 
Mullins is in charge of sports information for the Samford Athletics Department. His duties include serving as the main media relations contact for the department, and he is in charge of promoting Samford teams, student-athletes, coaches and staff to the local, regional and national media.
 
In addition to his duties with the media, Mullins serves as the editor and lead writer for the department’s official website, SamfordSports.com. He is also the editor for all fact books and game programs, and he oversees all press box and statistical operations on game days. He is also responsible for the promotion of Samford student-athletes for conference, regional and national awards. He has been heavily involved with Samford's Athletics Hall of Fame since its inception in 2017, serving as the head of the nomination committee and being in charge of all research involved with the Hall of Fame. 
 
Mullins came to Samford in 2003 as Assistant Sports Information Director, and was promoted to Sports Information Director in 2004 and Assistant AD for Communications in 2014. During his time at Samford he has covered conference championship teams in football, baseball, women’s basketball, volleyball and soccer.
 
Prior to his time at Samford, Mullins served as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Liberty University from 2001 to 2003. At Liberty, he was the media contact for the Flames’ baseball, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s golf teams both seasons, and he served as the contact for women’s basketball during his final year with the school.
 
Mullins was a Sports Information Intern at the University of Florida during the 2000-01 academic year. During his year with the Gators, he served as the media contact for women’s golf and men’s swimming and diving. He was the media contact for the 2001 SEC Women’s Golf Championship. He also assisted with the coverage of football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.
 
Before his time at Florida, Mullins was the Media Relations Intern at Wake Forest University in the 1999-2000 academic year. Mullins was the media contact for baseball, men’s soccer, field hockey and men’s and women’s tennis for the Demon Deacons. He served as the media contact for ACC Tournaments and NCAA Regionals in men’s soccer and field hockey, as well an NCAA Regional in women’s tennis.
 
Mullins began working in media relations as a student assistant at Troy University from 1996 to 1999. He assisted with media relations in all sports for the Trojans, and he served as the main contact for track and cross country. He was in charge of inputting statistics for football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.
 
During his final quarter in school at Troy, Mullins served a volunteer internship with the Auburn University media relations office, assisting with spring football and baseball.
 
Mullins is a 1999 graduate of Troy University with a bachelor’s degree in print journalism and public relations.
