Grant Lyons enters his sixth year as a member of the athletics staff and his fourth as assistant director of athletics for marketing and event management.
Lyons oversees marketing, promotions, campus relations, ticket sales and operations, customer service, game
operations and event management. He also serves as the administrator for Samford[apos]s cheerleading and mascot program. Lyons is assistant chair of the Samford Staff Advisory Council and serves on the University[apos]s Brand Marketing Team. He is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators [NACMA] and the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA).
Additionally, Lyons is a part-time adjunct
instructor in the Department of Exercise
Science and Sports Medicine [ESSM],
teaching tennis.
Prior to his current position, Lyons served as Samford[apos]s Director of Athletic Marketing. He was responsible for the marketing and promotion of Samford[apos]s 17 athletic teams. In addition, he was responsible for the RED SEA, Samford[apos]s student booster club and the BullPup Kids Club.
Before his time at Samford, Lyons served as a police officer with the Homewood Police Department.
Lyons also worked as a game-day marketing assistant at Samford during the 2004 football season. In his role as marketing assistant, he managed the Samford online store along with its student employees, and he managed the sponsorship tents during football games.
While a student at Samford, Lyons
served as a supervisor and instructor for the intramural athletics program. He also was a member of Samford[apos]s men[apos]s tennis team.
A 2004 Samford graduate, Lyons is
married to a fellow Samford graduate,
Vaughan Boyd Lyons. The couple has one daughter, Maggie Grace, born Aug. 3, 2009.
