Mark Ware begins his fourth season as head coach of the Samford men's golf team. An avid supporter of Samford athletics, he was delighted at the opportunity to assume his current role in July 1999.
With the help of head women's golf coach Ian Thompson, Ware has helped the Samford golf program make great strides. In Fall 2001 the Bulldogs claimed consecutive tournament championships, a first in the history of Samford golf. In Ware's first three seasons the Bulldogs posted five top-five finishes, and two Bulldogs have finished as tournament medalists.
An area businessman, Ware has led his company, Unishippers, on an ever upward expansion. He bought the Birmingham franchise in February 1991 and guided its growth to nine sales territories in four states.
While earning a degree in church recreation, Ware competed on the Samford golf team. His wife, the former Paige Harbour, is a '89 graduate of Samford. They have four children, all girls: Sarah (11), Rachel (8), Mary Frances (5) and Callie (2).
Ware's father, Cobby, is an amateur golfer of some note, having competed in the U.S. Junior, U.S. Amateur and U.S. Senior Amateur Championships, as well as the U.S. Open.
