Patrick Nix

  • Title
    Wide Receivers Coach, Recruiting Coord.
Beginning his first year as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at Samford, Patrick Nix holds some impressive offensive credentials.

Nix comes to Samford from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark., where he served as head coach for two seasons. While at HSU, Nix and offensive coordinator Doug Meacham directed an offense that broke 18 school records, four Gulf South Conference records and three national records. Under Nix's leadership, three players earned conference or national recognition, including wide receiver Eric Anderson (1999 second team all-conference), wide receiver Chad Luttrull (2000 first team all-conference, second team All-American) and quarterback Chris Reil (2000 conference Freshman of the Year).

Before his stint at HSU, Nix served as an assistant coach at Jacksonville State University from 1996 to 1998. When Nix coached running backs and quarterbacks, and coordinated the passing game, the Gamecocks experienced the biggest turnaround in Division I-AA football, improving from 1-10 in 1997 to 7-4 in 1998. Nix also mentored JSU quarterback Montressa Kirby, who either broke or tied 14 school records for passing and total offense and went on to become JSU's career leader in total offense.

Nix is a 1995 graduate of Auburn University, where he helped the Tigers to a perfect 11-0 record in 1993. He was quarterback and captain of the 1995 Auburn team that finished 8-4, winning the team's Pat Sullivan Award for Offensive Player of the Year as well as the Cliff Hare Award for Student-Athlete of the Year. He is Auburn's career passing efficiency leader with a 133.02 rating and ranks in the top four of 10 career passing categories for the Tigers. Additionally, he is fourth in career total offense with 5,081 yards, and his 40 touchdowns rank him fifth in school history.

Nix is married to the former Krista Chapman. They have two children: daughter, Emma (3), and son, Bo (1).
