2007 OVC Coach of the Year
Terri Sisk begins her sixth season as head coach of the Samford women's tennis team. She is the first coach to work exclusively with the women's team and is one of the youngest NCAA Division I female head coaches. In 2004 and 2006, Sisk led the Bulldogs to an OVC Tournament championship, a was named 2007 OVC Coach of the Year after leading her team to their first regular-season championship. Under her six-year reign, the Samford women have made two appearances in the NCAA tournament.
Before being named head coach in August 2002, Sisk assisted the Samford tennis program and was the tennis pro at SportsFirst Greystone for two years. She also taught at Highland Park and Brook Highland in the Birmingham area. Sisk worked for internationally recognized coach Dennis Van Der Meer in Hilton Head, S.C., as a developmental coach for several nationally ranked players who became touring professionals in the ATP and WTA. She teaches drills yearly at symposiums to coaches and teaching professionals from around the world.
Sisk earned a B.S. from Jacksonville State University in recreation administration and was a member of Jacksonville State's women's tennis team. She was ranked nationally in singles and doubles in Division II and helped lead her team to a Gulf South Conference title in 1991. Sisk also was named to the Gulf South All-Conference team and was inducted to the Talladega Hall of Fame that same year. In February 2003, Jacksonville State awarded Sisk the prestigious HPER Alumni of the Year Award for outstanding professional achievement in tennis.
A native of Talladega, Ala., Sisk is a certified professional with the United States Professional Tennis Registry and the Birmingham Area Tennis Association.
