On the heels of an unprecedented run to back-to-back Southern Conference regular season championships by Samford University Women’s Basketball, head coach Carley Kuhns announced the promotion of Jon Bollier to the rank of associate head coach on Monday, Sept. 13.
Bollier, who enters his fourth season as an assistant coach for the Samford women's basketball program and works heavily with the guards, is involved in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, on-the-floor coaching, scheduling, and assisting in the day-to-day operations for the Bulldogs.
He was instrumental in the turnaround the program experienced during the 2019-20 season. After winning just 10 games the previous season, the Bulldogs posted a record of 18-14, and won the program's first Southern Conference regular-season title with a 10-4 league record. The team then won the program's third SoCon Tournament title, punching their ticket to the 2020 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball National Tournament.
A year later in 2020-21, Samford repeated as Southern Conference regular season Champions with an 11-2 mark while going 14-11 overall. Junior guard Andrea Cournoyer was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league in scoring (18.4 ppg) while scoring in double digits in 19 of Samford’s 25 games.
In total over the last two seasons, the Bulldogs have won 32 games while six student-athletes have garnered All-Southern Conference postseason accolades.
Bollier came to Samford from the University of Georgia, where he served as director of player personnel from August of 2015 until his hiring at Samford.
Bollier played one season of basketball at Gardner-Webb University and Covenant College before receiving his bachelor's degree in sociology from Piedmont College Athens campus in 2009. He is married to the former Libby Lukens and the couple has one child, Sullivan.
