Cal King enters his first season as an assistant coach at Samford. King is responsible for coaching Samford's linebackers.
King comes to Samford after serving on the Georgia Southern coaching staff since 2020. From March 2020 to September of 2021, he served as a defensive back graduate assistant for the Eagles. As a GA, King worked specifically with the safeties. During the 2021 season, King coached the team's cornerbacks for the final eight games of the season.
During the 2022 season , King coached the nickel position at Georgia Southern, while serving as the senior defensive analyst.
During the 2023 and 2024 seasons, King coached GSU's linebackers and was a senior defensive analyst. He coached Marques Watson-Trent, who was named All-American, Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and All-Sun Belt.
King began his coaching career at The University of Louisiana, where he served as an offensive quality control coach and assistant running backs coach from 2019-2020. During his time with the Ragin' Cajuns, he coached three running backs who were named All-Sun Belt:
Elijah Mitchell, Trey Ragas, and Raymond Calias.During his collegiate years, King played quarterback at Presbyterian College from 2015-2018. King earned his bachelor's degree from Presbyterian College in 2019, and he earned his master's in Kinesiology from Georgia Southern in 2021. King is married to his wife Eliza.
