WBB To Open SoCon Play With Wofford Saturday

GAME NOTES
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—
The Samford women's basketball team will open Southern Conference play by playing host to the Wofford Terriers Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
Saturday's game is the second half of a doubleheader, with the Samford men's team playing host to Georgia Southern at 12 p.m.
 
Samford enters the game with a record of 3-2. The Bulldogs are coming off a 62-24 win over Auburn Montgomery Tuesday evening.
 
Through the first five games of the season, Samford leads the Southern Conference in several defensive categories. The Bulldogs lead the league in scoring defense (44.4 ppg.), field goal percentage defense (.324) and three-point field goal percentage defense (.138). The Bulldogs also rank fourth in the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense.
 
Offensively, the Bulldogs are led in scoring by junior guard Shelby Campbell, averaging 9.2 points per game. Fellow junior Kendall Schwantz is second on the squad, with an average of 7.2 points per game.
 
Senior forward Hannah Dawson leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 4.8 boards per contest. Campbell is currently averaging 4.0 rebounds per game.
 
Dawson is also the team leader in assists, dishing out 2.2 assists per game. Campbell, along with sophomore Taylor Reece and freshman Lydia McGee rank just behind Dawson, with an average of 2.0 assists per game each.
 
Wofford enters Saturday's game with a record of 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the Southern Conference. The Terriers opened Southern Conference play with a 68-54 loss at Chattanooga Thursday evening.
           
Wofford is led in scoring by Morgan Wrightson, averaging 11.5 points per game. Rachel Brittenham is averaging 10.3 points per game, while Daniella Motley scores 10.2 points per contest for the Terriers.
           
Motley leads the Terriers in rebounding, pulling down 9.5 rebounds per game. Wrightson and Michelle Merritt average 3.7 rebounds per game each.
           
Brittenham is the team leader in assists for Wofford, dishing out 4.5 assists per game. Wrightson averages 1.3 assists per game for the Terriers.
 
Samford and Wofford are meeting for the 12th time, with Samford holding a 9-2 advantage in the series. Last season, the teams split their regular-season series, with each team winning at home. Samford won the first meeting, 82-59, in the Pete Hanna Center. Wofford took the second meeting, winning by a score of 73-59, in Spartanburg, S.C.
