PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Samford defensive back
James Bradberry was named to the Division I-FCS Freshman All-America Team by the College Sports Journal, when the team was released on Tuesday.
As a redshirt freshman in 2012, Bradberry tallied 32 tackles, including 22 solo stops and 1.5 tackles for a loss. He also contributed two interceptions and two pass break-ups in his first season in a Samford uniform.
Bradberry, a native of Pleasant Grove, Ala., who transferred to Samford after redshirting the 2011 season at Arkansas State, was also named to the Southern Conference's All-Freshman Team. He was named the National Freshman of the Week on Sept. 24, after intercepting two passes in the Bulldogs' win at Western Carolina.
For the 2012 season, Bradberry and the Bulldogs finished with a record of 7-4 overall and 5-3 in Southern Conference play. The seven overall wins were the most for Samford since 2003, and the five SoCon wins marked the most league wins since joining the conference in 2008.
