Samford Cross Country will make the short trip to Tuscaloosa for the Crimson Classic, hosted by the University of Alabama on Friday, Oct. 18. Collegiate action at Harry Pritchett Running Park will begin with a women's 5k race at 5 p.m. followed by a men's 8k at approximately 5:30 p.m.

HEAD COACH LORI STRAND PREVIEWING THE WEEKEND
"We are all looking forward the Alabama Crimson Classic. We had a rough day in Louisville two weeks ago, so we made some adjustments and we are hoping for some good performances.
"On the men's side we are looking forward to seeing where our team will stack up against the quality competition that will be there on Friday. On the women's side we are looking for some improved individual performances. After this Friday, we will begin to working towards feeling good for the conference meet."
LAST TIME OUT: GREATER LOUISVILLE CLASSIC
Samford competed against a tough field at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday, Oct. 5 as the men's team placed 16th in the gold section of the 8k race while the women placed third in the blue section of the 5k race.
In the gold section of the men's 8k, Samford's leader was sophomore
Adam Jones, who placed 52nd overall in 25:53.56. Fellow sophomore
Luke Weishaar was the next Bulldog across in 26:06.54, placing 66th.
Lucas Sieb (82nd 26:25.01) and
Layton Dorsett (86th, 26:33.23) finished close together in a large pack around the 26:30.00 mark, while
James Graham (108th, 26:56.82) and
Brandon Hazouri (117th, 27:06.72) rounded out the rest of the Bulldogs' competitors.
In the Blue section of the women's 5k race, Samford was led by
Rachel Wooten with a 10th-place finish of 18:55.20 while
Frances Bernard was hot on her heels, finishing 13th in 19:03.05.
Ansley Bos made her collegiate debut, finishing 25th in 19:20.68 with
Marie Demedicis following three seconds later in 19:23.73 to place 28th.
Anna Laura Irvine (44th, 19:39.08) was Samford's fifth and final athlete to earn team points in the meet, with
Chelsea Treadway (47th, 19:43.57),
Rachel Roberts (73rd, 20:19.26),
Margaret Grogan (83rd, 20:41.93) and Katelyn Brock (88th, 20:49.65) rounding out the Bulldogs' field.
NEXT UP: 2013 SOCON CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
In two weeks, Samford will serve as the host for the 2013 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships, which takes place on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. The meet will take place at Veterans Park in Hoover, Ala., with the men kicking things off with an 8k race at 10 a.m. followed by the women's 5k at 10:45 a.m.
