SOFTBALL SET FOR MIDWEEK MATCHUP AT KENNESAW STATE
Samford (3-4) will travel to Kennesaw, Ga., on Wednesday, Feb. 20 to face the Kennesaw State Owls (8-1) at 6 p.m. ET.

OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT
Kennesaw State (8-1) - The Owls are off to a good start in 2013, as they have outscored their opponents 41-20, suffering only one loss this season after falling to UT-Martin last weekend, 5-4.  Senior infielder Sharon Swanson has started all nine games this season and is batting .419 (13-31) with a team-leading five doubles.  Freshman Missy Perkowski has also started strong in early-season action, playing in six games and earning a team-leading .538 average off seven hits in 13 at-bats.  Their leader in the pitching rotation is junior Amanda Henderson, who has a perfect 6-0 record over 39.0 innings with a 0.54 ERA and 51 strikeouts.

ALL-TIME SERIES VERSUS KENNESAW STATE
Samford holds a 1-7 all-time record against the Owls, with the Bulldogs' lone win coming in 2006.  The series has only recently become a common out-of-conference matchup, as all eight meetings have come since 2006 and the teams have not faced each other in only two seasons since then.

MVP SEAY
Sophomore Caroline Seay had an outstanding day on offense in the win against George Washington last Saturday, going 4-5 at the plate including a double and a triple.  It was her first career four-hit performance and the first for any Bulldog since Julianne Surane did it against UNCG on April 1 last season.  As a team, it was the first time Samford has hit a double and triple in the same game since April 10, 2012, and it was the first time an individual Bulldog had hit a double and triple in the same game since May 8, 2010.

PITCHING PROMINENCE
Through seven games this season, Samford's pitching remains a consistent strong point.  The Bulldogs are second in the SoCon in team ERA (1.75), one of only two teams in the conference with an ERA under 2.00.  Samford is not giving many free passes either as their nine walks allowed leads the conference and they are one of only three teams to allow less than 15 walks.  The team's 40 strikeouts puts their K/BB ratio at 4.4.

BULLDOGS SPLIT TWO GAMES AT SPARTAN INVITATIONAL
Samford split its two games at last weekend's Spartan Invitational, falling to Winthrop, 1-0, on Friday before surging towards a 12-4 win over George Washington on Saturday.  The Bulldogs were scheduled to play two more games on Sunday but they were canceled due to snowfall in the Spartanburg area.

Friday's matchup was a neck-and-neck pitcher's duel to the very end, as a sixth-inning solo home run by Winthrop proved enough to give them the slim one-run victory.  Samford was limited to one hit, a leadoff single by Madison Dickey in the sixth, as Winthrop's Sutton Watson proved a troublesome opponent in the circle.

Samford's bats came alive on Saturday to the tune of 12 runs and 11 hits in a convincing eight-run victory over George Washington that was called in the middle of the seventh inning due to snow.  Six Bulldogs in the starting lineup collected a hit, led by Caroline Seay's 4-5 performance including a double and a triple.  Samford was trailing 3-2 heading into the fifth inning but outscored the Colonials 10-2 over the final 2 1/2 innings to get the win.
