'DOGS TO PLAY TWO IN ATLANTA AT GEORGIA STATE
Samford Softball will play its final non-conference matchup of the season as they head to Atlanta, Ga., on Thursday, April 18 to face the Georgia State Panthers in a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 4 p.m. ET.
OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT
Georgia State (27-16, 7-5 CAA) - Thursday's doubleheader against Samford concludes a seven-game homestand for the Panthers, as they have won three of the past five games during that stretch. In the first game of the homestand, junior Kaitlyn Medlam (15-6) threw a six-inning perfect game against Georgia Southern, the third in program history, helping bring her team-leading ERA down to 2.22. At the plate, sophomore Callie Alford leads the team with a .356 average and 47 hits and 35 RBI. Junior Jessica Clifton is the team's other .300 hitter, batting .303 with 40 hits, while senoir Paige Nowacki has a team-leading 12 home runs.
ALL-TIME VERSUS GEORGIA STATE
Samford and Georgia State have played 66 games over the years, with many of those coming in the three seasons in which both teams were members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Panthers have won 54 of those contests, with Samford's last win coming in 2003. The teams have only met once since Samford left the A-Sun in 2004, a 3-1 Georgia State win in 2011.
MSU SPOILS SAMFORD'S TUESDAY NIGHT HOME OPENER
Samford opened the brand new Samford Softball Stadium Tuesday night against Mississippi State, though the visiting Bulldogs spoiled the occasion as they defeated Samford 13-1 in five innings.
Samford threw three different pitchers in the game, though none could find an answer to a potent Mississippi State offense that tallied 12 hits, including three home runs, and drew nine walks.
Shelby Scott (2-11) took the loss in the circle but knocked in Samford's only hit of the game, an RBI single in the bottom of the first that extends her hitting streak to five games. Birmingham native Jessica Cooley had a great homecoming, going 3-3 at the plate for Mississippi State with two home runs and six RBI.
