Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— The Samford baseball team dropped a 12-1 decision to Davidson in a game that was called in the top of the seventh inning due to rain in the Bulldogs' final regular-season game Friday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
With the loss, Samford falls to 27-28 overall and 12-17 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs have earned the No. 8 seed for next week's SoCon Tournament, and they will take on top-seeded Western Carolina on Wednesday. The time of the game will be announced when the pairings for the tournament are released Saturday evening. Davidson ends its season with a record of 18-31 overall and 12-18 in SoCon play.
Christiaan Durdaller went 2-for-3 to lead Samford at the plate.
Caleb Bryson drove in Samford's lone run of the contest, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
Alex Milazzo (6-2) pitched 2.1 innings, giving up three runs, just two earned, on three hits to take the loss on the mound for Samford.

Davidson was led by Daniel Gerow, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Nathan Becker went 3-for-3 with three RBI for the Wildcats. Nick Neitzel (1-2) pitched 6.0 innings, giving up just one unearned run on four hits to earn the win on the mound for Davidson.
Davidson jumped on top first with a run in the top of the second inning. Andrew Barna singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a single by Becker for a 1-0 Davidson lead.
Samford came back to tie the score with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Durdaller singled to left field to lead off the inning. After moving to second base on a Davidson error, Durdaller scored on a single by Bryson to make the score 1-1.
Davidson broke the game open in the third and fourth innings. The Wildcats plated six runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth to push their lead to 11-1.
In the third inning, the Wildcats scored six runs without managing a hit. With one out in the inning, Forrest Brandt walked and Ryan Lowe reached base on a Samford error, moving Brandt to third base. Lowe then stole second base and Brandt stole home to give Davidson a 2-1 lead.
Barna then walked and advanced to second base when Lowe stole third base. Sam Foy then struck out swinging, but reached first base on a wild pitch, loading the bases. Becker then walked, driving in Lowe for a 3-1 Davidson lead.
Barna scored the third run of the third inning when Gerow reached base on a Samford error, and Foy also scored on the error to make the score 5-1. Becker then scored on a wild pitch for a 6-1 Davidson lead, and Gerow scored the inning's final run when Ty Middlebrooks hit a sacrifice fly for a 7-1 Wildcat advantage.
In the fourth inning, Gerow hit a two-run home run, and Lowe and Becker drove in a run each to account for the inning's four runs. At the conclusion of the top of the fourth inning, Davidson held an 11-1 advantage.
Davidson added one final run in the top of the seventh inning. David Daniels doubled to drive in Becker to make the score 12-1. Shortly after the run scored, the game was called due to rain.
