Bulldogs Travel To No. 8 Alabama Tuesday

GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT ALABAMA (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on the eighth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The game can be seen live on SECN+.
 
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Will Andre (1-0, 4.66 ERA) on the mound Tuesday night. Alabama has listed right-hander J.T. Blackwood (0-1, 5.06 ERA) as its starting pitcher.
 
Samford and Alabama have met 118 previous times, with Alabama owning a 103-15 series lead. The teams met earlier this season on Feb. 17, with Alabama taking a 3-2 win at Joe Lee Griffin Field. Samford's last win in the series came on April 17, 2018, when the Bulldogs earned a 6-0 win at Alabama.
 
Tuesday night's game is one of eight games on Samford's 2026 schedule against teams from the Southeastern Conference. So far this season, the Bulldogs have hosted Alabama, played a three-game series at Georgia and a single game at Auburn. Following Tuesday night's game at Alabama, Samford will host Mississippi State on April 14 and then take on Auburn on April 21 at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
 
Samford comes into the week with a record of 14-16 overall and 2-4 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs dropped two-of-three games to ETSU over the weekend.
 
Samford has been led at the plate so far this season by Jake Souders, hitting .404 (46-of-114) with seven home runs and 21 RBI. Souders, Trey Higgins and Luke Boykin share the team lead in home runs with seven each. Boykin holds the team lead in RBI with 29 so far this season. Higgins is hitting .315 (29-of-92) with seven homers and 23 RBI. Gus Gandy is batting .312 (34-of-109) with three home runs and 13 RBI.
 
Alabama, ranked eighth in this week's D1Baseball poll, enters the week with a mark of 25-8 overall and 8-4 in SEC play. Last weekend, the Crimson Tide won two-of-three games at Oklahoma.
 
Alabama has been led at the plate so far this season by Brady Neal, hitting .367 (40-of-109) with six home runs and a team-high 34 RBI. Justin Lebron leads the team in home runs with 11.
