Hamilton And Handrahan Named Freshman All-American

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Two Samford football players were named to the Freshman All-America team, released by the College Sports Journal on Friday.
 
Wide receiver Karel Hamilton was named to the first team, while place-kicker Warren Handrahan was named to the second team.
 
In 2013, Hamilton was second on the team in receptions with 38, and in receiving yards with 657. He led the team in touchdown receptions with seven on the season. Hamilton averaged 17.3 yards per reception.
 
Handrahan made 19-of-24 field goals, including a long kick of 48 yards. He made 40-of-41 extra-point attempts on the season as well. Handrahan led the team in scoring with 97 points.
 
In 2013, the Bulldogs earned the first Southern Conference title in the history of the football program. The team also reached the NCAA Division I-FCS Playoffs for the first time since 1992.
