Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Bulldogs Win Streak Snapped After 3-0 Defeat

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Samford University volleyball team saw its 11-game win streak come to an end as UNCG blasted its way to a 3-0 victory. The Bulldogs hit a distasteful .131 in the match which is the lowest tally posted in Southern Conference play this season.

"Put that loss up to the last two weeks of practice." Head Coach Derek Schroeder stated. "We have had it on cruise control in the last few weeks of practice and have scraped by with a few wins. Today that wasn't in the cards."

Samford (15-8, 9-1 SoCon) looked sluggish in the first set as UNCG (14-9, 6-4 SoCon) sprinted its way out to a 25-19 win and take the initial lead in the match. After having much success in the opening set this season the Bulldogs have struggled when falling behind early. That struggle showed as SU has only managed to win two matches this year after dropping the initial set.

Senior Michaela Reesor attempted to right the ship in the second set with a nine kill performance where she hit a modest .333. Reesor however found little support as the rest of the team went a combined 3 for 23 offensively. The Spartans took advantage yet again and closed out the set 25-19.

The Bulldogs made strides late in the third set with back-to-back service aces from senior libero Chelsi Carter to make the score 23-21 but the rally came a little too late as UNCG grinded out the last two points.

The Bulldogs next match at home will be on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. against the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga inside the Pete Hanna Center. Until then the Bulldogs will go back to the basics of Samford volleyball according to Schroeder.

"Monday, there will be lessons learned and we will be going back to culture type Samford University Volleyball Practices."
