BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team will wrap up its current three-game road swing by playing at in-state rival Troy Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in Trojan Arena.
 
The Bulldogs enter the game with a record of 4-2. Samford is coming off a 59-56 overtime victory over Penn State in the consolation game of the Georgia State Thanksgiving Invitational on Nov. 30.
 
Samford is led in scoring by Taylor Reece, averaging 15.7 points per game so far this season. Hannah Nichols is averaging 13.7 points per game for the Bulldogs.
 
Destiney Elliott leads the team in rebounding, grabbing 7.3 boards per contest. Krista Stricklin averages 4.0 rebounds per game. Elliott also leads the team in assists with 20 so far this season.
 
Troy enters Wednesday night's game with a record of 2-3 after an 83-80 loss to Savannah State on Nov. 30.
           
Troy is led in scoring by Ronita Garrett, averaging 16.2 points per game for the Trojans. Ashley Beverly-Kelley is scoring 12.8 points per game so far this season.
           
Garrett also leads the Trojans in rebounding, grabbing11.2 boards per contest. Kristen Emerson averages 8.6 rebounds per game for Troy. The team leader in assists for Troy is Beverly-Kelley, dishing out 3.6 assists per game. Emerson averages 2.4 assists per game.
 
Samford and Troy will be meeting for the 16th time in women's basketball, with Troy holding a 9-6 advantage in the series.  The teams have not met since Dec. 9, 2006, with Samford earning a 54-51 win in a game played in Troy's Sartain Hall.
           
The first meeting in the series came on Jan. 5, 1998, in Samford's first season of women's basketball. Troy won that first meeting, 94-71 in Troy. Samford has won the last four meetings in the series.
