ATHENS, Ga. -- Against some of the top collegiate golfers in the nation Saturday, Samford junior Bailey Gray earned a top-10 finish Saturday at the 2014 Lady Bulldog Individual Tournament being held at the par-72, 6,335-yard University of Georgia Golf Course.
Gray, Samford's talented native of Trussville, Ala., registered a 36-hole score of 153 (76-77) and finished just two strokes out of a seventh-place tie with Tennessee's Emmie Pietila.
Auburn's Alex Harrell and Tennessee's Chessey Thomas shared Individual Medalist honors with identical scores of 147 (75-72). Mississippi State's Rica Tse and Alabama's Daniela Lendl finished tied for third place at 148.
Samford true freshman Arin Eddy earned a 23rd-place finish Saturday with a two-round tally of 158 (80-78). She was followed by teammates Natalie Mitchell (82-77=159), Sydney Needham (84-77=160), Emily Stallings (80-84=164), Alex Jasper (89-80=169) and Haley Harrington (88-94=182).
The Second Annual Lady Bulldog Individual Championship was hosted by the University of Georgia and consisted of 36 holes of stroke play.
The one-day, two-round competition consisted of 54 competitors from the following 12 teams: Samford, Alabama, Auburn, Chattanooga, Georgia, Georgia Regents University, Kennesaw State, Louisville, Mercer, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Tennessee.
Last season, the inaugural event only consisted of one 18-hole round and Florida's Mia Piccio garnered the championship title with a 3-under-par 69.
The Samford University women's golf team will next be in action Feb. 24-25, at the 2014 USA Women's Invitational being held at the Azalea City Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.
