Box Score 2 GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Samford University softball team dropped two games to Furman University in the Southern Conference opener on Saturday, March 15, at Pepsi Stadium.
GAME ONE - (SAMFORD 0, FURMAN 4)
The Bulldogs (20-7, 0-2 SoCon) offensive machine came to a standstill as Furman (13-12, 2-0 SoCon) pitcher Lauren Collier (8-5) tossed a complete-game shutout and limited Samford to only four hits.
Collier helped her own cause as she notched a two out two RBI double to left center that gave the Paladins a 2-0 lead.
Ambree Muller tacked on another FU run in the bottom of third inning with a sacrifice fly to left center to extend the lead out to 3-0.
Caroline Seay and
Abby Adams recorded back-to-back one out singles in the top of the frame in the fourth inning to give the Bulldog offense some life but were left stranded in the inning to stay scoreless.
Sieara Bishop capped off the Paladins scoring effort with a leadoff home run over the fence in left center field to take 4-0 lead.

Callie Brister all went 1 for 3 at the plate, while Samford pitcher
Mollie Hanson (10-5) gave up four runs, one earned, two walks and recorded five strikeouts in the effort.
GAME TWO -
(SAMFORD 1, FURMAN 5)
Elise Smith opened up the scoring for the Paladins in game two of the twin bill with an RBI sacrifice fly to center field.
The Bulldogs evened up the scoreboard to 1-1 in the top of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by
Abby Adams that scored freshman
Abbie Miranda. Miranda reached with a leadoff single earlier in the inning.
Furman responded in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead 2-1 on a Bishop home run to center field.
Samford threatened in the top of the sixth inning when
Callie Brister reached base after being hit by the pitch with one out then was followed up by a
Caroline Wilder double to left field to put runners in scoring position at second and third; FU eventually got out of the jam with a strikeout and a ground out.
The Paladins extended its lead out to 5-1 with a three-run bottom of the sixth inning.
Wilder led the way at the plate for Samford going 2 for 3 at the plate with a double, while Dowdy, Brister, Seay and Miranda each notched a hit in the contest.
Grey Adams (6-1) pitched 5.2 innings, gave up four hits and issued seven walks.
Samford continues play tomorrow for the final game in the series against Furman on Sunday, March 16, at noon.
