Box Score 2 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University softball team ended a 10-game losing streak to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga en route to a double header split on Saturday, April 12, at Samford Field.
GAME ONE (Samford 1, Chattanooga 0)The Bulldogs ended the 10-game losing streak in 1-0 win in a pitcher's duel over the Mocs in the first game of the double header.
Sophomore
Megan Dowdy scored the winning run in the bottom of the fourth as she initially led off the inning with a hit up the middle that thwarted Katie Henderson's perfect game attempt.
Dowdy scored from third on a fielder's choice hit to the second baseman by sophomore
Callie Brister.
Chattanooga pitcher Katie Henderson gave up only two hits in the contest with Dowdy's being the costly at bat; Junior
Abby Adams picked up the other hit on Henderson.

Mollie Hanson picked up her 18
th win of the season to improve to 18-7 on the year after she scattered four hits and picked up four strikeouts.
GAME TWO (Samford 1, Chattanooga 5)The Mocs put base runners on early in game two of the twin bill and chased starting pitcher
Rebecca Leonard from the mound in the first inning.
Grey Adams came in relief of Leonard and pitched five innings of ball only to give up five runs which one of them was earned in the affair.
Chattanooga was poised to take the lead in the top of the second but
Caitlin Bice thwarted the effort as she gunned down the Mocs base runner trying to cross home plate with a throw from her right field position.
UTC eventually jumped out in front in the top of the third after an Anyssa Robles base hit up the middle and she advanced to second on an illegal pitch by Adams. Nicole Osterman drove in Robles on a single to right field to take the lead 1-0.
Criket Blanco extend the Mocs lead out to 3-0 in the fifth with a two RBI base hit opposite field to right center field that scored Nicole Osterman and pinch runner Courtney Ervin.
The Bulldogs bounced back picked up its first hit and spoiled Taylor Deason's perfect game in the fifth with a
Callie Brister leadoff the inning single up the middle.
Hannah Taylor followed up with a walk and
Caitlin Bice moved the runners to second and third with only one out for
Madison Dickey.
Dickey's RBI ground-out to second base to scored Brister from third for the Bulldogs lone run of the game.
Chattanooga plated two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh to seal the victory.
The Bulldogs and the Mocs will play on Sunday, April 13, in a rubber-match game that is set to start at 1 p.m.
