Softball On The Road Against Aggies and Phoenix


GAME NOTES: Samford at North Carolina A&T - Elon (04.25-27.14)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford University softball team opens up play this weekend with a non-conference game against the Aggies of North Carolina A&T on Friday, April 15, at 1 p.m. The team will travel just a few miles down the road to take on Southern Conference opponent Elon University in a three-game series on the following Saturday and Sunday with first pitch slated for noon each day.

QUICK HITTERS
· Friday's contest against the Aggies will be the first time the two programs will have met on the diamond.

· The SoCon showdown between the Bulldogs and the Phoenix on Saturday will be the 19th meeting between the two squads and as of now Samford holds a 12-6 record over Elon.

· The last time SU and EU faced off between the chalk lines the Bulldogs took an 8-0 victory in the first round of the 2013 SoCon Tournament to advance on to the next round of play.

· The previous four meetings Samford has outscored Elon 21-2 and shut out the Phoenix in three of those contests.

· Sophomore Callie Brister and junior Abby Adams are neck and neck in a race to break the Samford single-season RBI record held by Amanda Barrs. Barrs 42 RBI ranks first while
  Brister and Adams sit and third and fourth with 34 and 33 respectively.

· Sophomore Megan Dowdy continues her quest to attempt to break the Samford single-season record for stolen bases. Dowdy currently sits with 18 swipes on the year out of 19
  attempts and is two shy from tying the record of 20 by Jessica Owen back in 2008.

The race for the SoCon regular season crown and seeding for the upcoming tournament really heats up this weekend as the top four teams are vying for chance to make a run at the No. 1 seed. Georgia Southern (12-3 SoCon) currently sits a top the standings and is followed up by Chattanooga (9-5 SoCon) and Furman (9-5 SoCon). Georgia Southern hosts Chattanooga this weekend in Statesboro, Georgia and Furman travels to take on 6th place Western Carolina (7-8 SoCon).

ON DECK
The Bulldogs will conclude the regular season at home on May 3 and 4, with a three-game series against Georgia Southern University before it enters the Southern Conference Tournament set for May 7.
