Callie Brister's RBI foul out down the first base line brought home sophomore
Megan Dowdy from third.
Elon bounced back in the bottom of the frame to tie the game 1-1 on a Carleigh Nestor triple to right field which scored Alaina Hall all the way from first.
Samford regained the lead in the second with a series of hits from
Hannah Taylor,
Abbie Miranda and
Megan Dowdy. Taylor reached on a single to center field and Miranda singled out to left that allowed Taylor to move from first to third; Miranda advanced to second on the throw to set the stage for Dowdy's RBI single up the middle.
SU tacked on an insurance run to take a 3-1 lead in the third inning thanks to an
Abby Adams leadoff home run; it was Adams 14
th long ball of the year.
Mollie Hanson pitched her 16
th complete-game of the year and picked up her 21
st victory of the season in the effort. Hanson dealt out seven strikeouts on the day.
GAME TWO (Samford 1, Elon 6)The Phoenix jumped out in front in the bottom of the first as Carleigh Nestor two-run home run bottom first inning off of Bulldog pitcher
Shelby Scott.
Aly Quintana extended the Elon lead out to 3-0 after she successfully sent a sacrifice fly out to right field.
The Bulldogs plated its first run of the ballgame after
Megan Dowdy led off with a triple over the right fielder's head and was brought home on a
Caroline Wilder double down the right field line. Wilder was thrown out at third trying to extend the hit into a triple.
Alaina Hall put the game out of reach with triple down the right field line in the bottom of the sixth for Elon; the hit plated three Phoenix runs to extend the lead out to 6-1 over Samford.
The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow at noon in a rubber match contest against Elon at the Hunt Softball Complex.
