GAME NOTES: SoCon Tournament(05.07-10.14)

The No. 4 seed Samford University softball team (36-16, 11-9) is set to compete in the 2014 SoCon Softball Tournament on May 7-10, at the UNC-Greensboro Softball Complex.

QUICK HITTERS
The Bulldogs open play in the final game of competition on day one with the host institution No.5 seed UNCG at 4:30 p.m. CST.

Samford is lined up on the same side of the bracket as it's two most recent opponents in Georgia Southern and Elon and will face either of the two depending on the outcome of tomorrow's games. Should the Bulldogs emerge with a victory over UNCG they will play on Thursday, May 8, at 3:30 p.m. CST and if the team losses it will play the 10:30 a.m. contest on the same day.

The Bulldogs are 11-9 against the tournament field this season and hold an all-time record of 75-126 against teams from the Southern Conference. Samford has been successful against teams at home this season after going 9-3 and took ever series from conference opponents. SU on the road has struggled on the road however going 2-6 against SoCon opponents.

On the season the Bulldogs have faired well at neutral sites as the team provided an impressive record of 9-1 in those games with it's only loss coming to Mercer.

This will be Samford's fourth appearance in the SoCon tournament since joining the conference in 2009 and the program sports a 6-6 overall record at the tournament with its best finish coming in the 2013 tournament where the Bulldogs went all the way to the semi-finals.

Samford placed six on the SoCon All-Conference teams as sophomores Mollie Hanson, Callie Brister and Megan Dowdy all picked up first-team accolades while junior Abby Adams and sophomore Caroline Wilder each earned second-team spots. Freshman pitcher Grey Adams earned a spot on the SoCon All-Freshman team.  This is the first time Samford has had first-team selection and the third time for second-team selections.

Dowdy currently sits at 61 hits on the season just three shy of the Samford single season record set by current teammate Madison Dickey which was set back in 2012.
