Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Samford Falls To No. 7 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – The Samford University volleyball team took two hard defeats to the likes of the University of Central Arkansas and No. 7 ranked Florida State University on the opening day of the Seminole Classic on Friday, September 12, inside Tully Gym.

The Bulldogs (3-5) dropped its early morning match against Central Arkansas (2-5) in three-straight sets to open the classic. Samford put up a valiant effort in the first two sets of the match and narrowly missed out on sets of 23-25 and 22-25 before UCA dispatched SU easily 25-12 in the final set of the contest.

Junior Emily Meitz led Samford's offense with six kills on 10 attempts (.600); she also contributed two blocks in the effort. Michaela Reesor also notched six kills in the match.

Samford started off strong in the nightcap against the No. 7 Seminoles but the depth of the highly ranked FSU proved to be too much for the Bulldogs as the team fell in three-straight sets.

SU was bested by FSU the first set 25-19 before the squad fell in the second and third sets by the scores of 25-8 and 25-13.

Reesor paced the struggling Samford offense with seven kills.

FSU's Nicole Walch led the Seminole offense with 13 kills.

Samford returns to action at noon tomorrow to face SEC foe LSU at noon on the final day of the Seminole Classic. The match will be broadcast on Cox Sports.
