Women's Basketball Travels To ETSU Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—
The Samford women's basketball team will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to take on the East Tennessee State Bucs Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) in ETSU's Brooks Gymnasium.

Samford enters the game with a record of 11-9 overall and 4-1 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 49-32 loss at #25 Chattanooga last Monday.

In the loss at Chattanooga, Samford was led by Taylor Reece with 10 points and five rebounds. Hannah Nichols scored six points, while Brittany Stevens added five points.

For the season, Nichols leads Samford in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game. Reece averages 11.0 points per game, while Destiney Elliott scores 9.1 points per game for the Bulldogs.

Elliott is the team leader in rebounding, grabbing 6.2 boards per contest. Krista Stricklin averages 4.6 rebounds per game for Samford.

Stevens leads the team in assists per game, dishing out 3.1 per contest. Lydia McGee averages 2.4 assists per game, while Elliott averages 2.2 assists per game.

ETSU, in its first season after returning to the Southern Conference, is currently 13-7 overall and 5-0 in SoCon games. The Bucs are coming off a 72-70 win at Mercer last Monday.

ETSU is led in scoring by Shamauria Bridges, averaging 13.8 points per game. Tianna Tarter is scoring 12.8 points per game for the Bucs.

Destiny Mitchell is the ETSU team leader in rebounding, grabbing 9.3 boards per contest. Serena Clark averages 8.3 rebounds per game for ETSU.

Tarter is also the team leader in assists, dishing out 4.0 assists per game. Chandler Christopher averages 3.0 assists per game for ETSU.

Samford and East Tennessee State will be meeting for just the second time ever in women's basketball, with Samford holding a 1-0 advantage in the series. The Bulldogs and the Bucs last met on Nov. 17, 2007, with Samford coming away with a 91-72 win in the preseason WNIT in the Pete Hanna Center.

Saturday's game will mark the first time Samford has played at East Tennessee State, and the first time the two programs have met as Southern Conference foes.
