Bulldogs End SoCon Slide With Victory Over Wofford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University volleyball team snapped a four-game Southern Conference slide with a 3-1 (27-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21) win over Wofford College on Friday, Oct. 30, inside the Pete Hanna Center.

"The team showed a lot of growth tonight." Head Coach Derek Schroeder said. "We had a really good week of practice and it really translated in tonight's match."

The Bulldogs (9-11, 4-6 SoCon) received a double-double effort from freshman setter Taylor Anderton in the hard fought match against the Terriers (15-13, 6-5 SoCon). Anderton dished out 48 assists and recorded 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.

Samford started the match out strong against Wofford by taking the first two sets before entering the intermission. In the first the Terriers took the Bulldogs to extra points where Samford put the set away 27-25 by grinding out three consecutive points after they faced a Wofford set point at 25-24.

In set two it was a back-and-forth affair until Samford broke a 16-16 tie and ran off four-straight points to take a 20-16 lead. Junior Erin Bognar put the set away with back-to-back kills.

After the intermission the Terriers came out on a mission and jumped out on top of the Bulldogs 5-0 in the third set. The deficit after the sluggish start proved to be the deciding factor as Wofford claimed a 25-21 decision.

Freshman Krista Boesing led the Bulldogs with 13 kills while Kate Neisler tallied 11 and T.J. Russell smashed down 10 on the night. Sophomore libero Morgan St. Germain led Samford with 13 total digs.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 4, against Chattanooga inside the Pete Hanna Center for their annual Dig Orange match with first serve set for 6 p.m.
