BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University volleyball team took a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-18) decision over The Citadel at home inside the Pete Hanna Center on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The Bulldogs (12-11, 7-6 SoCon) found another solid defensive effort from sophomore libero Morgan St. Germain as she tallied 17 digs in the sweep over The Citadel (7-24, 0-13 SoCon). Nine total Bulldogs recorded at least one dig in the match.

Juniors Erin Bognar and Kiahna Wicks supplemented the defensive effort with a concentrated effort on the offensive side as the duo combined for 26 of the teams 50 kill in the match. Bognar paced the team with a total of 15 kills (.387) while Wicks contributed 11 kills (.500).

Samford stayed resolute offensively for a majority of the match as the team hit .414 in the first set and .457 in the final set of the match with the only drop off occurring in the second set where the Bulldogs managed just a .190 attack percentage.

The Bulldogs and The Citadel battle back and forth early on in the first set until Samford broke a 10-10 tie and raced out to a 20-14 lead to get themselves to push time. From there all Samford needed to do was side out to win the set 25-19.

The trend continued for the second and third sets of the match. The Bulldogs used sideout percentages of 69%, 68% and 57% to put away The Citadel after gaining separation in the sets.

The Bulldogs will face The Citadel once more on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. CST to close out their 2015 home schedule.
